Masterclass in Ecuador
During Summer 2015 Sonja Kraus went to Guayaquil in Ecuador to teach a three week masterclass for the students of the Universidad de Especialidades Espíritu Santo, the Niccolo Paganini Conservatory and orchestra members of the Ochestra Sinfónica de Guayaquil. During that time she taught cello lessons, group technique classes, and instructed sessions on “The Healthy Musician”. The latter involved stretching and strengthening exercises for musicians to prevent music making related injuries. Additionally mental strategies to cope with performance anxiety, imposter syndrome, and feelings of inadequacy were addressed and practiced.
While Sonja was teaching masterclasses she was simultaneously preparing her performance of the Saint-Saëns Cello Concerto No. 1 with the Ochestra Sinfónica de Guayaquil. For Summer 2017 a similar project is planned, expanding the masterclasses and performances to Cuenca and Quito.
During the fall semester of 2016 masterclasses at Indiana State University and Quattro String Academy are planned, where Sonja will teach students of Kurt Fowler. Additionally a masterclass at Butler University for the students of William Grubb will take place.
The masterclass at Indiana State University will take place on November 1st. For more information please contact Sonja Kraus.
